I go by AyeJay Freez, my people call me 2k. I don’t really rep one place but my hearts on the east coast, by way of KC.
Tell us about your latest releases, what inspired you to create them?
I dropped Catch22 on 4/20 and the visual to GOODIE some time in March. Catch22 was real life for me at the time. I had been going through it with a shorty and the timing was bad, I was fresh off of the release of #2kthegoat. I really just wrote what was on my mind at the time. GOODIE was a long time coming and addressed a lot of things going on in the town and how I move around it.
What is unique about you and your music?
I feel like my over all sound is unique personally and my approach toward creating in general is kind of unorthodox. But what listeners have told me is they really like the perspective I write from and I think that’s pretty dope.
What shaped your music?
Life. My life in particular, learning experiences and overcoming adversity.
When did you realize you were going to make music professionally?
I dropped a record called pocketchange and foodies a while back and it was received really well, I was addicted after that.
What type of music do you listen to?
A lot of r&b. Mellow dark vibes talk to my soul. I vibe to mad rap music to but really when it’s just me at the spot I’m probably on a r&b wave.
What inspires you to write music?
My writing is linked to my mood I’d say, if I’m feeling an emotion strong enough I’ll usually want to create something to portray that energy.
What do you do when you don’t do music (creative or otherwise) and that you are passionate about?
I’m a father, I’m usually with my son Amaan and my baby girl Serenity. They keep me on all 10. Otherwise I’m searching for new sounds and vibes to share with everyone.
Happiness to you is…
I’m kind of a downer man, happiness to me is ignorance. Like in the literal sense, the less you know and have to be concerned about the happier you’ll be.
What do you wish you were told when you first started making music that you think would help artists just starting out?
To take more risks. Go to that state even if you don’t have the budget, email that manager even if you’re fan base in just local, take chances and make mistakes.
Tell us about your upcoming projects...
Right now I’m working on the visual to Catch22 and I have another single I’m going to follow up with here shortly. If the demand is there we’ve been in talks about a possible Ep as well. Other than that promo promo promo until we can get back on stages.
Where do we find your music / music projects?
Everywhere you can stream music man, I try to keep my tunes as accessible as the next mans. Google AyeJay Freez one time.
