What is your name and what city do you rep?
Rahyn Hollywood, I'm From Chicago.
Tell us about your latest releases, what inspired you to create them?
My latest release it my single "808".... it's special because it has a little history behind it. I wrote the song back in 2008, at 18 years old. I knew the moment I wrote it that it was going to be a hit. I was really in my zone writing it. It was a certain way I heard it too while writing it. Which is why I held onto it for a while before recording it. Because I wanted to make sure it was done perfectly. Overall, it's a feel good song, that you can dance to or just vibe to.
You can really just enjoy it.
What is unique about you and your music?
What's unique about me and my music, is that you won't just get one thing from me. I do hip hop and I do R&B. I have a equal passion for both. I don't put myself in a box or put any limits on myself. Whichever one you do get at that time, you're going to get good music for sure. And you're going to enjoy what you're hearing.
What shaped your music?
What shaped my music, was having great artists that I admired and loving their sounds. Being from Chicago, I had Kanye to look up to. Common, Lupe Fiasco. Anybody who was from where I'm from and did impeccable things with music and made it classic and legendary, had alot to do with what shaped me. They were my teachers.
When did you realize you were going to make music professionally?
I realized very young, that I was going to do this professionally. Since the age of 12. Entertaining was always in me, ever since I can remember. And being groomed to do this. I have been singing and dancing since the age of 4. Rapping since 13. So it wasn't hard to realize what I wanted to do.
What type of music do you listen to?
I have a very keen ear for music. So I listen to varieties.... my first loves R&B and Hip Hop. I might dab into rock. There are some artists who I like heavily in that field. And being that I have an old soul, I love the old school stuff... Motown and stuff like that. I grew up hearing it around me. So it broaden my
horizon very early on.
What inspires you to write music?
What inspires me to write music, is the need to fulfill the artist that lives within. She's always craving to create. It's just in me, to want to do it. To leave people amazed and make something legendary. That in a nutshell, I would say shapes my Inspiration.
What do you do when you don’t do music (creative or otherwise) and that you are passionate about?
Poetry, is something I've always been passionate about. The moment I started writing songs, which was at 13 I was writing poetry. I absolutely love it. I love reading; always have. I have a thirst for knowledge and learning more to become self taught. Especially reading on other people who have become successful. I love to soak up all the free game it gives me.
What do you wish you were told when you first started making music that you think would help artists just starting out?
The only thing that I can say wasn't told to me that I can tell the next, is to trust your process. I hear that so much now. So the artists who are just starting out, got a heads up with that one. That's cool though. Because it can help them to better understand that you will have setbacks, disappointments, alot of waiting it out. Moments when you're not sure. If you should give up or not. Or is what I'm doing really dope and the people gone rock with it. Those moments are gone come. It won't be a cake walk, unless you're privileged. But you're going to come out on top. Believe in that. No matter how hard it gets. And if you can't find the Inspiration, it will come to you when it's right. But see it all the way through.
