MCGtherapper New Jersey's Hiddem Gem

Q:   First of all tell us about the start of your professional career?

I’ve been rapping since I was 16 in high school, but I guess I started taking things more seriously at the end of 2019. I finally had a good story to tell and I wanted the start of the new decade to be special for me. I wouldn’t call myself professional at all.

Q:  What advice would you give to beginners who are nervous?

I think beginners are nervous because they are afraid to fail. You have to let your fears go. You’re going to fail over and over. I've been doing it for years… you get use to failing. I am not even remotely famous and I’m still failing but I know that I’m growing and improving and that's the most important part.

Q: When you decide it’s time to make a new record, is that more exciting or stressful?

It is a combination of both. I'm always excited when an idea comes to me and if I catch a flow it feels amazing. The stress for me comes when its time to release but when it's good enough I’m proud of it and hopefully it connects with people.

Q: How easily do songs tend to come to you?

A chorus is easy but writing verses is hard. I stink at writing songs. Sometimes it takes me weeks to come up with something good. Other times I could write a 3 verse song in a night. I guess it depends more on the beat now that I’m thinking about it…

Q: What’s your motto or the advice you live by?

I don’t really have a motto but I listen to any advice given to me and try to see all perspectives. The way I’ve been doing things lately is “one small thing a day for music”. What I mean by that is just do something every day to chip away at my music career. I could write, record or just try and figure out a beat. I just need to do one thing a day every day. I don’t know hopefully it works out for me.

Q: What is you favorite song to belt out at the bar/in the car right now?

Right now I’ve been on a Saba kick so….. Life by Saba

Q :What are your future goals as a music artist?

I just want to keep growing and improving. That's all.

Q: What was your most memorable performance to date?

I’ve never performed. I need to get that under my belt after my EP comes out.
